Qld: Man shot dead by police at farmhouse siege

BRISBANE, April 9 AAP - A 29-year-old man died today after being shot by police following
a 19-hour siege in south-east Queensland.

A police spokeswoman said the man was shot after he fired at officers while trying
to flee a property at Cinnabar, near Kilkivan just before 11am (AEST).

Police were called to the farmhouse about 3.45pm (AEST) yesterday after neighbours
reported hearing gunshots

Negotiators tried to talk the man out of the house but later retreated from the property,
cordoning off the area, when the man started making threats.

The man fired at a police car overnight and this morning, damaging the vehicle, the
spokeswoman said.

Around 11am today he tried to flee in a car which was intercepted at a nearby police roadblock.

The man allegedly threatened police with a gun and police fired a number of shots,
wounding the man.

He was given first aid and a helicopter was called in to airlift him to hospital but
he died at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said there was no-one else in the farmhouse and no-one else was
injured in the incident.

The police homicide squad, ethical standards command and Crime and Misconduct Commission
will investigate.
