Fed: Tax cuts should be nexton the wish list says PM
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says enough Federal money is being spent on health and education
and insists that tax cuts should be next on the list.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Mr HOWARD is challenging opinion polling suggesting
voters believe income tax cuts or a GST rollback are less important than extra spending
on education and health.
According to the report, Mr HOWARD says the biggest problem with the income tax system
is that high marginal rates cut in too early.
Mr HOWARD says Australia's health system is fantastic and funding problems in public
schools are the responsibility of the states rather than the Federal Government.
He says federal investment in such public services is already strong and tax cuts are
the next clear priority.
