NSW: Paedophile returns passport to gov't -report
Convicted Australian paedophile CLINT BETTERRIDGE has reportedly returned a passportthat was wrongly issued to him.
BETTERRIDGE, aged 35, returned home to Australia last month, just days before a Cambodiancourt sentenced him in absentia to 10 years in jail and fined him $8,000 for raping sixCambodian girls aged between 12 and 14.
He was able to return to Australia after embassy staff in Phnom Penh wrongly issuedhim with a new passport, which has since been cancelled.
ABC radio's reported that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmedthat a representative of BETTERRIDGE handed back the passport on Thursday.
ABC's reported a DFAT spokesman would only say the passport was handed back somewherein Australia.
BETTERRIDGE remains a fugitive in Australia, although possibilities for his extraditionto Cambodia are being investigated by DFAT and the Attorney-General's Department.
