Afghan Aust (CANBERRA)

An Australian soldier and an Afghan interpreter have been killed in an ambush in Afghanistan
overnight.

Defence Force Chief ANGUS HOUSTON says the pair were shot and 21 year old Sapper JAMIE
RONALD LARKHAM and the interpreter could not be saved despite the efforts of Australian
troops.

Sapper LARKHAM was from a Darwin regiment .. 23 Australian soldiers have been killed
since Australia sent troops to Afghanistan in 2001.
